Designing for Live

Live television requires a balance of speed, clarity, and visual impact. Graphics often move from concept to air within hours—or minutes—while maintaining ESPN's visual language and communicating information clearly to viewers.

Design doesn't happen in isolation.

Working in live production means collaborating closely with producers, directors, researchers, and fellow designers to turn editorial ideas into broadcast-ready visuals.

What Live Taught Me

Trust Design Instincts

Tight production deadlines have pushed me to make confident design decisions, trust my instincts, and find effective solutions without overthinking every detail.

Design for the Audience

Live television has reinforced that great design isn't just visually interesting—it needs to communicate instantly and work within the context in which it's presented.

Embrace Iterations

Breaking news, updated statistics, and changing storylines can shift a graphic moments before it goes to air. I've learned to embrace that uncertainty and adapt quickly.
